Granite State Progress Statement on Maggie Hassan Winning US Senate Seat

Concord, NH – Granite State Progress congratulates Maggie Hassan on winning the New Hampshire U.S. Senate seat. Statement from Executive Director Zandra Rice Hawkins:

“Congratulations to Maggie Hassan for her victory in the U.S. Senate race. This was a tough campaign and both candidates worked hard to gain votes. Last week a poll highlighted that voters were less likely to vote for Kelly Ayotte because of her repeated opposition to comprehensive background checks on gun sales, and in this tight race we believe that Kelly Ayotte’s decision to side with the gun lobby over New Hampshire constituents ultimately hurt her re-election campaign.”

“We look forward to Maggie Hassan being a voice of common sense in the U.S. Senate on gun violence prevention and other important issues such as equal pay and filling the vacant U.S. Supreme Court vacancy. We wish Kelly Ayotte the best in her next endeavor.”
