SEA: This budget won’t work

The State Employees Association of New Hampshire, SEIU Local 1984, will hold a media conference and rally at noon, Tuesday, June 23, in the lobby of the Legislative Office Building in Concord.

“This budget needs to go back to the Committee of Conference for more work,” says SEA President Gary Smith.

The budget passed last week by the Committee of Conference will hurt too many people in New Hampshire. The Committee added $25 million in last-minute personnel cuts. That could mean 750-1,000 layoffs – about one in nine classified state employees — severely limiting the State’s ability to provide needed services like food stamps and unemployment benefits.

SEA and other labor organizations will ask the Senators and Representatives to send the budget back to the committee and reconsider gambling and other revenue sources that will adequately fund public services.
