Labor Leaders, Health Care Advocates and Grassroots Activists Jobs Alone Aren’t Enough – For Good Job Creation, Contracts Must Include Living Wage, Health Care Benefits and Job Training Opportunities Concord – On Thursday, April 23rd at 12 noon, labor leaders, health care advocates and grassroots activists will hold a press conference calling on Governor Lynch and the New Hampshire Executive Council to use an “ARRA Responsible Contracting and Good Jobs Checklist” when awarding American Recovery & Reinvestment Act-funded contracts. The checklist – which covers basic job creation and community benefit standards to achieve optimal use of taxpayer dollars; compliance with state laws and regulations; federal regulations; and post-contract award accountability – is an important step to ensure comprehensive economic recovery as well as accountability and transparency for ARRA projects. It includes a strong emphasis on job creation that encompasses a “livable wage” and health care benefits. A broad coalition of labor leaders, health care advocates and grassroots activists are calling on Governor John Lynch and members of the Executive Council to use the checklist to determine contract awards, and to follow the Obama Administration’s lead for the utmost transparency around ARRA-related contracts – including posting the completed checklists as well as wage and benefit and other job creation details for each contract awarded.
