Concord, New Hampshire – Local issue advocacy groups proved this week that the progressive movement in New Hampshire is alive and kicking with activities that addressed environmental concerns, health care advocacy, fair trade use and working family issues, among others.

“It’s been another exciting week in the progressive community,” said State Director Josiette White of America Votes, a group dedicated to providing support to issue groups talking to the public about candidate stances on a range of policy areas. “This week, the glamour and lights focused on candidates visiting the state, but day-to-day these local groups are out there talking to voters about important issues in our communities.”
A small sampling of progressive actions that took place this week includes:

AFL-CIO
Ran a Labor to Labor canvass in Manchester to talk to union households

Clean Water Action
Conducted voter contact canvasses and phone banks in Nashua

Environment NH
Conducted voter contact canvasses and phone banks on issues of environmental concern

MoveOn
Hosted Manchester MoveOn Team kick-off

New Hampshire for Health Care
Conducted phone banks and hosted another Manchester Health Care Community Meeting

Working Families Win
Participated in a Fair Trade meeting and ran a phone bank in Keene

And today, America Votes will host a day-long activist training in Manchester to further develop the skills of the state’s leading progressive staffers and activists.

“Every door that is knocked, every phone that is called, every voter who hears from one of these groups is getting the information they need to make decisions that will benefit their families and communities,” White said. “Candidates get a lot of attention, but these local campaign staff and volunteers are really building an informed, motivated voter bloc that is going to consistently push for solid, progressive policies for years to come. The progressive movement in New Hampshire is only growing stronger.”
